Anti-Dumping Duties on Aluminium Oxide from China and Long-Term Planning

Since January 2026, the EU has imposed anti-dumping duties on fused aluminium oxide (corundum) from China. The basis is EU Regulation 2026/114 of 17 January 2026. The tariff rates range between 88.7% and 110.6%.

Why does this affect the prices of grinding tools?

Aluminium oxide, as abrasive grain, is the central raw material used in the production of conventional grinding tools. The global production of this synthetic abrasive grain takes place largely in China. Material costs account for a significant portion of the variable costs, and tariffs of this magnitude therefore have a direct impact on manufacturing costs. This means: a noticeable increase in raw material costs is inevitable for the entire industry.
